Third Party Testimonials: Are you selling your soul?
Posted by Althaf Ahmed on 11/4/07 in Internet Scams, Featured
I was browsing the AtomicBlogging.com website by Alvin Phang today. It is an ebook I bought sometime back and had to return it because I was disgusted by the content, the poor writing style, the innumerable grammatical mistakes, etc.
I don’t know what it is about today, but since morning I have been browsing many Internet Marketers and their product sites. What caught my attention and thought was the countless “WoW†testimonials in these sites by a known set of marketers who seem to be everywhere.
I will come back to the main topic a bit later; first let me finish the story. I signed up for his newsletter and in the next page I was shown a free offer. Refer few friends to the site and you will get my free book “Blogging Trafficâ€. There’s no way I could refer my friends to the site. It would be a sin. I used a few of my own email addresses and managed to get the book.
Mind Blowing Book.
Name of the Chapter: If You Are Doing SEO You Must Read This
“Also… I have been secretly using a free tool and I really love it! You want a shortcut to get high page rank keywords? Well instead of you writing a long article and put it on article directories which what many people are doing why not use blog comments?
Yep you heard me right, blog comments can create back links too! And I found this tool here call Blog Comment and the interesting part is that this tool searches Wordpress blog by its keywords.
But wait here is the more interesting part, it also shows you the blogs’ PR ranks. So what can you do with that? Comment in the blog and say HI! and back link back to your site in the comment!
To download Blog Comment just go to http://www.xxxxxxxxxx.com/blogcommentorlite.zipâ€
(Notice the poor language)
It is called comment spam and Mr. Alvin Phang, The GURU of Blogging is building an army of new bloggers to spam, making the already tough job of fighting spam even more difficult.
Coming back to the main topic, do these Internet Marketers have any integrity left in them? To a book like Alvin Phang’s, which should have been provided with constructive criticism and advise, the GURU’s gave top reviews deceiving the masses into buying his crap. Look at some of them:
“A great step-by-step guide for people who seek to learn and profit from their own blogs. I enjoyed it and it’s a straight-forward, no-fluff blueprint which will help many new bloggers. Good job!”

I pity you Old Lady. A piece of link space is important to you than your own soul.
“Just a quick note to tell you Alvin how much I appreciate your Atomic Blogging product. Let’s face it, most of the money is outside of the Internet Marketing niche
itself, it is in the myriad of niches sitting waiting for us to BLOG to them!
You show the latest way to do just that here in 2007 going into 2008, as opposed to other products which are, in my opinion, more narrowly focused. Including your WordPress plug-in makes the product even better. Thanks again!”

I have my own doubt if these bird brains have even read his book. If they did, they wouldn’t have said the above. Look at the site below their names. That is the real purpose; to advertise their product and to gain visitors.
I can go on with more, but let’s not waste time. Have I answered the question about their integrity? I guess I have.

Well written! I am working on SEO as a part time hobby and really did not understand how it works. I would love easy to read literature that does not include cheating or unethical content. Cheers to the good guys!

There is a far batter and ethical product called Comment Hut which alows you to search Wordpad (com and org), TypePad, Squidoo, Hub pages etc. for your keyword phrase, rank them according to PR as above.
The difference is you are advised to leave good positive and useful comments and then everyone’s happy. The blog owner ‘cos he’s getting good on topic content (like this) via your comment and you ‘cos you’re getting a back link.
Anyone who leaves a silly - “look at my site” spam comment is wasting there time as it won’t be posted, if it is it will be removed by the blog owner. These people are plain stupid!
Most gurus are charlatans and will do anything for a buck but still 1000’s of people fall for their lies and half-truths.
Check out Comment Hut though it’s a good bit of software:

For your info those brain birds did read the book =) About the commenting.. if you do 100 comments per day is of course spamming my friend.. but if you do it one or 4 a day it is quite safe =) But I guess you do not need any advice since you are already an expert anyway =)
Anyway thanks for your honest comments and I know I have problem with my grammar but you have no reason to say I have no integrity if you have been reading my blog..

Thanks Alvin for the response. Much appreciated. First off, if comments are like the one you just wrote, then definitely it isn’t spam, but if a comment is just a “Hi” with your URL, it is a spam, be it 1 or 100. Next, the talk about integrity was not about you. It was about the pitiful soul that had advertised themselves in the testimonial column.
Lastly, the reason why I mentioned your poor grammar was not to make fun of your language skills, but to highlight the fact that for less than $100, you could have hired a proofreader who would have perfected the language in your book. Who have you written the book for?
