Darren from ProBlogger.net had a funny article on how to become a famous blogger. It was a cartoon by Dave at WeBlogCartoon.com illustrating 2 ways of becoming a famous blogger.
Jokes apart, how do you get known in the blogosphere? How do you become a famous blogger? How did the big guys become big?
Everybody talks about fresh and unique content, but what if you are blogging about a niche that has saturated, or a niche where the big boyz have captured the arena? Here are couple ways I can think of.
Be Gutsy: A few months back, I came across a headline on the Internet “Adsense is deadâ€. I don’t recall his name, but this guy had the guts to go out and scream those words. If I am correct, he had written a book with the very title mentioned above. In reality all he was doing was setting a ground for the release of his future product. I realized it the moment I read it, but my point here is, he dared to speak against the trend and created a buzz. How would it be if you were swimming against the current in the sea?
Disinformation: A big word. A blogger friend of mine yesterday asked me “Al, how about playing a prank for traffic?†Fortunately, I read his mind and understood it. I suggested a post “What if Yahoo were to buy Google†and he suggested we submit it to Social Sites under the heading “Yahoo has Bought Google†making it a point to mention in the post that it was all but a prank. This isn’t something I personally advise, but you see, it works.
Got Cash? Throw a party. Run a competition. Forget buying ads and targeted traffic or adwords campaign. Create a Buzz. Get hold of a popular hosting company. Say their regular price of yearly hosting with the coolest feature in the world is $85. Tell them about the competition you are running and show them their benefits. Exposure. Never talk about your benefits or why you are doing this. Tell them you plan to give away 1 free hosting account as prize every week. Ask them for a discount. Say $65. Negotiate. Win. Your cost will be $260/month.
Run the competition for a month. Advertise it in Social Sites, Blog networks, among friends, etc. Word will spread. Be creative. Come up with a new giveaway next month. Say, a popular ebook that has established itself very well. Variety is the spice of life.
So, you still want to be famous huh? Subscribe to the blog and stay updated. You will succeed. Huh?
